LAWG HAY CAMINO
HISTORY PROJECT
Farm Meetings: 1984-1989
The “Farm Meetings” took place annually for five years at Bev Burke and Rick Arnold’s farm near Cobourg, Ontario. During these years of intense struggle and conflict in Central America, the Farm Meetings provided an opportunity for people in LAWG and a number of NGOs, such as CUSO, OXFAM, Inter-Pares and others, to get together to carry out analysis and some social time to build relationships. These meetings, convened by LAWG, brought together individuals working in Canada and in the region, in an atmosphere of trust to share information, carry out conjunctural analysis, and plan a coordinated strategy. At the last farm meeting, Bev and Rick were presented with a barn board of signatures thanking them for being generous and wonderful hosts for these critical gatherings. Today, Bev still uses this board as a shelf to germinate her tomato seedlings – with “very good results”.
